Retro Zombie Tiki Terror in Chicago!

Posted: 31st May 2010 by That Ghoul Ava in Events, Horror

Last night was my first Retro Zombie Tiki Terror, brought to you by the “lovely” Kitty Zombie. I haven’t gotten to many events in the last few years, due to illness and resulting complications. It sucks; I miss so many great events sponsored by the Zombie Army Productions and other great Chicago Horror affiliates because of health issues, it was good to finally get out and partake in some of it.

The event took place at the amazing Tiki Palace of Des Plaines, Ill.  The restaurant brings you the full sights, sounds and tastes of the South Pacific – if the decoration job isn’t enough for you, the Polynesian Island cuisine, Tropical drinks (try the Zombie – holy shit) and floor show should win you over. The island theme was given a Voodoo zombie make over, and most of the patrons showed up in their best zombie apparel. I say ‘most’ because I was one of the few that didn’t. All my latex and gore make up had gone to shit, and Kitty was going to help me out with a makeup job. A unforeseen staff complication left everything behind schedule, so I’ll forgive him – but he owes me another beer now.

One of the highlights of the Tiki Palace is the floor show, and it didn’t disappoint. The dancers are amazing (and quite hot) and demonstrate dances of the islands, with lots of laughs and audience participation. Here’s some crappy pictures and video – sorry, it was shot on an iphone (click the links for video)

Bob the bartender even came up and sang with his Ukulele

Elvis showed up to sing “Blue Hawaii”

Audience participation is huge – Kitty and Chad Savage performed a War Dance, as well as learned to Hula with some female audience zombies.

After Ten pm, there was a prize raffle (I didn’t win, what a fucking surprise!), Zombie Costume contest, and the Zombie Pin up girl contest. Some really good costumes, but I still think the Gilligan’s Island zombies should have won!

The festivities went on with more boozing, schmoozing, Limbo contests etc until 2 am – I didn’t get to stay that long – I had a tooth extracted on Friday and it was throbbing like a 20 year old’s hard on – but it was an amazing time. According to Kitty, the event was such a hit, and bigger than last year, so expect it to be even BIGGER next year – it will probably expand outside with tents, live bands, car shows….and more booze. I can’t wait!

Keep an eye out on The Zombie Pinups page and Kitty Zombie’s page for better picture of the festivities. And don’t forget, CYPHAN is this month, so see you there!
