Never thought this day would come – not because I particularly hoped for it, but because I was trying to avoid it all together. We were told that due to past illnesses and medications, any chance I had of getting pregnant was out the window.

So I received word today that a “friend” committed suicide. I’m not putting friend in quotes because the meaning lacks sincerity, but simply because I never met this person face to face. I’ve talked literally thousands of people through the various social media networks – some I’ve met, some I haven’t. I’ve talked to many for hours on end via skype or vent. We’ve gone on podcasts, written articles, played games, and conversed aimlessly among twitter and facebook – one might argue that the time spent in ‘virtual’ friendships outweighs what we spend face to face. So that begs the question: is a virtual friend less meaningful than a ‘real’ friend? And if they are less meaningful….why am I so upset? Read the rest of this entry »

Lots of things piss me off. I mean LOTS. But rather than just be as brief as to say EVERYTHING pisses me off, I’ve decided to let the people of the internet know exactly what pisses me off….one thing at a time. Read the rest of this entry »

For anyone who actually reads this blog, and the even fewer that don’t give a rat’s ass about video games & World of Warcraft, I apologize for this next post. It’s all about WoW. Suck it up or skip over reading it.
So last night I left my guild. The guild I have been with for over 5 years now. I made a lot of great friends, and actually met some great people thru it – hell, as nerdy as it sounds, I met my fiance there. For years, our guild kicked ass & took names, being in the forefront of progression, and a majority of servers firsts…not all, but a majority. Celestial Defenders, First Heroic Anub, First Iron bound protodrakes, First Shadowmourne (#7 in the US, I think), Bane of the Fallen King, Lights of Dawn…..but for the last few months, even before the “summer blahs” & “pre-expansion blues” kicked in, something wasn’t right.
We’ve lost a lot of players, like most guilds. Players are tired, unsure of cata, Real life happens. You know how it goes. But when we started losing long time officers, people I consider the cornerstones, things went from bad to worse. There’s certain things you can’t tolerate in a raid, and piss poor attitudes is one of them. Venom towards other players is another. In a progression guild, it’s deadly. Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Nintendo Entertainment system. And while I was too young to understand the concepts of “lust” or “infatuation”, I’m quite sure this was exactly what I experienced back then.
I was 7 years old, and I remember stopping by my friend Jason’s house after school to see it. I sat in jaw dropping delight as I watch Mario jump on Goombas’ heads, slide down pipes, and throw turtle shells. The colors were so vivid! The graphics were amazing – it was like playing a cartoon! Surely I can’t be expected to go back to my Atari 2600 after this!!!
Thankfully, I didn’t have to for long. Fast forward to Christmas Eve, where I unwrapped a brand new NES System, complete with 2 controllers, a light gun & Mario Brothers and Duck Hunt.I was in shock. Life couldn’t get any better for a 7 year old, right? Read the rest of this entry »

My review on the convoluted piece of monkey feces called Toolbox Murders by Tobe Hooper is up on Horror-extreme, if you care to read it.
Not that I don’t blame you if you don’t want to read it- I’m the literary equivalent of Jackass, and calling me a writer is just an insult to anyone with a vested interest in the field.
But, go here if you have absolutely nothing better to do. Toolbox Murders (2004) at Horror-Extreme.com

I hate cats.
I hate everything about them. They’re sneaky, creepy, arrogant and just not fun. They just LOOK evil. They’re not like dogs. Dogs love you. REALLY love you. They love walks, they love playing – hell, you can be the biggest asshole in the world, and the dog still loves you. It’s almost like they exist just to please you.
But not cats. Oh no – not cats. Always watching you. Waiting. Look at their eyes. They’re just waiting for you to die, or planning ways to cause enough harm to be able to move in for the kill. Imagine if these pets kept a damn Diary. Read the rest of this entry »

Just a quick note to let you all know the ghouls over at Bloody Good Horror picked me & the fabulous Carly up to write about odds n’ ends of the horror variety, as well as the occasional review. They also said I could get shitfaced and go on the podcast, so anyone who’s heard me on RaidWarning/Slash 2/Pugcast or anything else knows how interesting that will be. And before you ask – yes, I was drunk when I propositioned them.
What is Bloody Good Horror? BGH is exactly what it sounds like, dumbass – it’s a horror site. It’s covers the standard fare of horror movies & reviews, but also books, posters, comics, music, toys – anything horror related and then some. They’ve got a good quality staff (such as Eric & Casey) and some amazing writers (not including me – I’m just like a court jester) so go check it out, as well as the Bloody Good Horror Podcast . You can check out my first article here about the show Ugly Americans (which I absolutely love). Also, you’ll notice they make me write under my icky “real” name, so don’t let that throw you off.
In closing: Q: Why can’t Jesus play hockey? A: He keeps getting nailed to the boards.

Comcast support is as about as effective as a monkey fucking a football
At what point is “enough, enough”? How long is one required to put up with horrible service before they are entitled to lose their god damn mind? Is it two plus years? Because that’s how long I’ve been dealing with my issue with Comcast in the Chicago suburbs.
It started simply enough two years ago: Random loss of signal. Sometimes it was out for half an hour, sometime sit was 5 minutes, but most of the time the signal loss was so quick the modem wouldn’t even register it, but it was still enough of an interruption that any VPN connections, games, voice servers etc were dropped. It’s great when your CAD software requires a VPN connection to register the network license! And let me tell you – nothing says “relaxing” like unwinding after work, playing games with a group of friends, only to disconnect!
“But Ava” You ask, “It’s been over two years. How could Comcast ignore such an issue, and why do you continue to pay for their service?”
GOOD. FUCKING. QUESTION. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m female. I know, I know, I’ll give you a minute to recover from shock, but yes – I’m a chick. I’m not some girlie girl either. You won’t see me having Sex & the City Movie Marathons, spending time on my nails, or wearing anything pink. Quite honestly, I’m much happier up to my elbows in motor oil, and I prefer getting power tools on my birthday instead of jewelry.
All women are created equal
I’m seeing a shit ton of gender and feminism blogs and posts lately, and maybe I don’t have a leg to stand on here due to my ignorance , but am I less of a woman because I don’t care about all that? I think you know where this is going – Drunk & angry Ava is going to throw her two cents in.
Feminism & racism is a touchy subject – most likely, I’ll probably piss off a lot pf people with this post, so if you’re one of them. email me your address and I’ll send you a spoon so you can eat my ass. Read the rest of this entry »
